The Mechanics:  The Combustion
(Power) Stroke:

When the piston reaches the top
of its stroke, the fuel/air mix is
ignited by an electric spark from
a spark plug.  

The explosion or combustion
forces the piston back down the
cylinder (like a foot pushing on a
bicycle pedal)-this is when the
horsepower is generated and the
engine is turned.
